Don’t let me give the impression that AM is a bad record or the Arctic Monkeys have sacrificed artistic integrity. In fact I’m glad that they’re breaking through the airwaves, it’s just that the NME-style circle jerk regarding it’s acclaim is bothersome when the records preceding it are just as masterful yet for completely different reasons (arguably superior, ehmm HUMBUG). Not to mention Alex and co. have run the risk of becoming caricature by the sexy quiffs, biker boots, and Armani suits.
Never forget the music. Because Arctic Monkeys are one damn good musical act. And there is no doubt in my mind that their name will be uttered in the same hushed tones relegated to bands like The Strokes, Blur, The Smiths, The Jam, The Kinks, Etc.
